"THE GARFIELD MOVIE" - Review

THOUGHTS ON “THE GARFIELD MOVIE”

(best if read with the original voice of Garfield in your mind)

Who better to take on Furiosa than America’s favorite fat cat?

It’s got a voice cast of people you know (Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Nicholas Hoult, Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, Bowen Yang, Snoop Dogg), some potential behind the camera (director Mark Dindal and co-writer David Reynolds gave us THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE) and the animation is pretty…

It’s the third time Garfield has been on the big screen…

(eats all your spaghetti)

It’s the third best Chris Pratt movie with the title “THE ______________ MOVIE”…

(eats an entire pizza)

It’s perfect if you want something the kids might like that is alternately extremely busy and yet slowly paced, with a lengthy prologue and three lengthy backstory flashbacks from supporting characterszzzzz…

(eats an entire lasagna)

It’s perfect if you felt like you wanted to watch a long-lost father story blended with a complicated crime story involving a dairy heist that is also doubling as a rescue mission to save a long-lost love and also the main character is Garfff…

(eats another lasagna, falls asleep)

Big fat hairy deal. Reread the comic strips for 90 minutes instead and we all just agree that maybe the cinematic potential of Garfield has been thoroughly tapped?

But my five-year-old liked it.
